Residents of the fast-growing suburb of Armstrong Creek will soon have the sporting facilities they need, with construction of the Armstrong Creek Sports Pavilion approaching completion.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today joined representatives from the City of Greater Geelong to walk through the construction site, where local builders Rendine Constructions are in the final months of works.
The pavilion will support new clubs playing Australian Rules football, netball, cricket and soccer. It will include a social room with a kitchen, change rooms, umpires rooms, meeting spaces and administration facilities.
The pavilion will be the first public sporting facility available at Armstrong Creek, providing important physical and social infrastructure for the growing community.
Armstrong Creek consists of 2,500 hectares of developable land and is one of the largest growth fronts in the country. It is forecast to provide approximately 22,000 residential homes for between 55,000 to 65,000 people.
The pavilion will lie between the two planned sports fields, with a car park on the northern side and netball courts in the south. A children’s playground, public open space, pathways connecting to external trails and landscaped areas will also feature on the eight hectares of undeveloped land.
The Victorian Government is contributing $500,000 to the sports pavilion project and the City of Greater Geelong is contributing $3.18 million.
