Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney has slammed the Baillieu Government for 14 months of inaction on increasing the number of police in Geelong.
Ms Tierney said the Coalition campaigned on a law and order platform in Geelong promising more police but has failed spectacularly and after 14 months of absolute neglect the region is now facing the closure of police stations contrary to all of the Government’s hollow political spin.
“For our region the facts are clear; the Coalition has broken their promise to provide better policing for the area and the local member Andrew Katos MP simply is incapable of addressing the matter.
“The best assurances he is able to offer is that he will look into it.
“Geelong and the Surf Coast deserve better from a Government that so strenuously pursued this issue in the lead up to the last election,” Ms Tierney said.
Ms Tierney went on to say that Police resources and Police numbers for the Region are so important to local member Andrew Katos that he has not raised one question in Parliament on the issue since being elected.
“If Mr Katos is unable to secure the necessary police resources now when stations are facing closure what hope is there that his proposed Waurn Ponds police station will be properly staffed without ripping police from other local stations” Ms Tierney concluded.
