The Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney has welcomed the $12.5 million start of works of Pioneer Road in Waurn Ponds this week.
Motorists and pedestrians will be the big winners from the upgrade of Pioneer Road by reduced congestion, improved access in and out of the busy shopping and recreational precinct, as well as improved safety for anyone using the Meadowvale Drive and Pioneer Road intersection.
The improvements to Pioneer Road are:
- 350 metres of divided road in each direction
- a new duplicated bridge over Waurn Ponds Creek
- new traffic signals at the intersection of Pioneer Road and Meadowvale Drive
- facilities for cyclists
- safer pedestrian crossings
- improved paths linking to the existing path networks a better connection with the
Princes Highway.
Pioneer Road is a vital link from the Geelong Ring Road to the rapidly expanding Grovedale, Armstrong Creek and Surf Coast districts.
VicRoads has been working closely with surrounding traders and organisations to ensure that access to the precinct will be maintained during the works.
Works will be completed by late 2016.
