More Terang patients will get the endoscopies they need sooner thanks to an Andrews Labor Government funding boost to upgrade equipment at Terang Hospital.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today announced Terang and Mortlake Health Service would receive $271,000 through the Labor Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.
The $200 million fund – the largest of its kind in Victorian history – will rebuild rural and regional hospitals to ensure all Victorians can access the high quality care and facilities they need, no matter where they live.
The funding boost for Terang Hospital will be used to buy the latest technology in endoscopy and sterilisation equipment.
The purchase of a new Soluscope, refurbishment of the central sterilising department, replacement of current steriliser to a self-steam generating unit and a wash disinfector will ensure safe and sterile medical devices for patients.
The upgrade will enable doctors to perform more endoscopies by improving the reliability of medical equipment.
This will improve patient outcomes, deliver safer and better care, while also meeting increasing demand for local surgical services.
In last year’s budget, the Labor Government delivered $1.67 billion to support hospitals to meet demand and provide high quality care Victorian patients deserve, as well as $428.5 million in new hospital upgrades.
Such funding is in stark contrast to the $2.1 billion Malcolm Turnbull is trying to rip off from Victorian hospitals in their dud proposed Heads of Agreement for the National Health Reform Agreement 2020/21 to 2024/25.
This is on top of the $104 million that Victoria is already owed by the Federal Liberal Government – which Malcolm Turnbull is refusing to pay – despite independent advice confirming Victoria is entitled to the funding.
