The Andrews Labor Government is getting the planning right in Portland to boost local jobs, create more affordable and help the community remain as liveable as ever.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today announced an $80,000 Streamlining for Growth grant to assist the Glenelg Shire Council develop the Portland Structure Plan.
As the community grows, it’s crucial we put proper plans in place so that they feature the schools, parks, community services and open space that all Victorians deserve.
The Portland Structure Plan is all about ensuring council plans properly to seize on the opportunities of population growth – and retaining Portland’s renowned liveability.
There’s no place to live like regional Victoria. The Labor Government is making record investments in schools, hospitals and transport, giving locals the services they need.
We recently launched the Ready When You Are campaign to encourage more people to make the move to regional Victoria. We’re making it easier for young Victorians to buy their first home there, by doubling the First Home Owner Grant to $20,000 in the regions.
Regional Victorian businesses have received a shot in the arm too, thanks to a 25 per cent cut to payroll tax. It’s expected up to 4,000 regional businesses will be eligible for the exemption, with more than 1,000 of those enjoying the lowest payroll tax in the country.
The Labor Government’s Streamlining for Growth grants are being delivered by the Victorian Planning Authority. They’re all about cutting red tape and boosting council resources to encourage development and make our communities as liveable as ever.
In total, more than $20 million is being invested in the program over four years.
