The Andrews Labor Government is helping put on fun, educational – and free – events this October for Grovedale families and children as part of Children’s Week.
Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today announced Barwon Network of Neighbourhood Centres was among the 69 recipients of a Children’s Week grant, receiving funding to help it hold Wan Yaari Aboriginal Cultural Journey in Grovedale on Thursday 26 October.
The grants ranging from $500 to $1300 will be provided to not-for-profit organisations and councils to host free and fun activities for families as part of Children’s Week, which runs from 21-29 October.
Offering two preschool and one primary aged performance over two days, the team at Wan-Yaari will immerse the children in a number of cultural activities that will develop an understanding and deepen their inquisitiveness into our rich Aboriginal Community, Traditions and Culture.
In the two preschool sessions the children will enjoy an interactive aboriginal dance and music session, learn a fun but educational traditional aboriginal game involving artefacts. They will also learn about aboriginal painting and have an opportunity to paint their own boomerang cut out and to paint together a large aboriginal canvas.
The 2017 Children’s Week theme recognises the power of education to transform a child’s life.
Children’s Week events are free for families with children aged 0-12 years and are a great opportunity for families to enjoy a fun, engaging and educational experience.
The Government is delivering its $202.1 million Education State Early Childhood Reform Plan, which recognises the importance of providing families with strong support in early childhood so our kids are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.
