Tomorrow’s local cricket stars will soon be enjoying better facilities at Mount Moriac Recreation Reserve with the announcement of funding through the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund – Cricket Facilities.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today announced $52,810 funding to upgrade facilities at Mount Moriac Recreation Reserve, home of Modewarre Cricket Club.
The funding will enable Surf Coast Shire Council to develop an all-weather multi purpose training facility with a total cost of nearly $86,000. Council will contribute nearly $20,000, and the local club the balance.
This will be a more flexible facility that will allow for more in-depth coaching sessions, and increased training sessions involving more players.
Most importantly, it can be used all year round, and not just by cricketers. Players in other sports will use the facility plus it will be available for general fitness activities.
It is expected that construction will begin by mid year.
The project is one of 25 across the state in this round of funding. The projects are part of a four year initiative by the Andrews Labor Government, Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia to improve cricket participation opportunities for all Victorians.
Funding of up to $100,000 is available to local councils or organisations for development of new facilities – or the upgrade of existing cricket facilities – at clubs around the state.
Works can include upgrading change rooms, developing training facilities such as cricket nets, improving access for players and visitors, and ground surface/draining improvements.
