The work of local history groups to preserve our community history for generations to come has been recognised as part of the 2019 Local History Grants Program.
Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today congratulated the three community groups in Victoria’s south west who were among 49 community groups across the state to share in $350,000 worth of local history grants.
The grant recipients include:
- Skipton & District Historical Society – $10,500 for the digitisation and upload to Trove of the Skipton Standard 1914-1928.
- Port Fairy Historical Society Inc – $8,492 to equip a new purpose built archive facility with quality storage materials.
- Colac & District Family History Group – $2098 to replace computers for their digitisation project. The project will enable maximum accessibility to all history records, documents and photographs held by the group.
Other winning recipients include Ballarat and District Aboriginal Co-operative to collate an online history marking the group’s 40 years of work, including the story of their founding elders and the next wave of Aboriginal activists, and the Horsham Historical Society for computers to allow community access to the group’s digitised collection of photos and records, and to digitise cassette tapes of interviews.
The Local History Grants Program is part of the Public Record Office Victoria’s ongoing support for community organisations and volunteers who work to preserve, record or publish our shared local history.
