The Andrews Labor Government is targeting alcohol-related crashes involving young drivers in Warrnambool through a new awareness program about the dangers of underage drinking.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today announced a $25,000 grant for local organisation Communities That Care to run their Smart Generation Program.
“The program reduces access to alcohol for minors by monitoring underage alcohol sales and discouraging parents from supplying alcohol to high-school age children through social media campaigns”, Ms Tierney said.
The regions targeted in the program have high rates of youth road fatalities and serious injuries.
The Smart Generation Program is funded by the VicRoads Victorian Road Safety Partnership Program and has previously proved successful in reducing teen alcohol use.
The TAC’s Community Road Safety Grants program provides grants of up to $25,000 to community and not-for-profit registered groups who can identify a road safety issue and come up with a proposal to fix it.
