Local community and environmental group ANGAIR (Anglesea, Aireys Inlet Society for the Protection of Flora & Fauna) has had their hard work acknowledged by the Andrews Labor Government in the latest round of Coastcare grants.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney MP said community organisations were encouraged to apply for funding from the $150,000 Coastcare Victoria Community Grants Program, which supports the conservation, restoration and rehabilitation of coastal and marine environments along Victoria’s 2000km of coastline.
The Soapy Rocks Restoration Project at Anglesea, is a partnership between ANGAIR, local school groups, Conservation Volunteers Australia and GORCC’s (Great Ocean Road Coast Committee) Conservation Team that will weed, mulch and revegetate an area adjacent to the Surfcoast Walk that is used by beachgoers, walkers and cyclists.
The Coastcare program has a strong focus on providing local community groups with the support they need to deliver environmental benefits at a local level.
27 community groups from across the Barwon South West, Port Phillip and Gippsland regions successfully applied for grants of up to $7500 to undertake projects that protect and enhance the coastal and near-shore marine environment.
