Women racing enthusiasts will be invited to dine in style at the Terang trots this November as part of a joint racing and infrastructure funding package worth more than $47,000 supported by the Andrews Labor Government.
The Labor Government is providing more than $12,000 towards two racing infrastructure upgrades at Terang Racecourse, and almost $9600 from its Victorian Racing Industry Fund for the 2018 Ladies Night on 5 November.
Racing participants in Terang will benefit from a new camera tower installed in January 2018, which provides head-on vision of the home straight, along with electrical testing of the lighting system as part of ongoing maintenance.
Harness Racing Victoria contributed more than $12,000 towards the two infrastructure upgrades.
The Ladies Night race meeting will offer an upmarket dining and entertainment experience with a Melbourne Cup phantom call predicting the winner of nation’s favourite race, and live music from Luke Bourchier.
A range of prizes will be given away on the night, including for raffle draws and winners of the crowd-favourite ‘Fashions on the Field’ competition.
Members of other local sporting or racing clubs in the region are also being encouraged to come along, with the first 300 patrons through the gate receiving free entry.
There will also be guided tours of the stabling area, along with interviews with trainers and drivers throughout the night.
Free shuttle buses will service Cobden, Colac and Warrnambool, with the first 120 racegoers to make a booking also receiving free entry.
Terang Harness Racing Club is providing almost $12,500 towards the race night activities, with generous local businesses contributing more than $1200 towards the night’s entertainment.
Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided almost $35,000 to support three infrastructure projects and two race day events at Terang.
The racing industry in the Western District generates more than $100 million for the Victorian economy annually and helps to sustain more than 980 full-time equivalent jobs in the region.
