The Anglesea Football and Netball Club will be kicking more goals and growing its ranks with the Andrews Labor Government set to upgrade lighting at Ellimatta Reserve.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today announced Anglesea Football Netball Club was among 25 sports facilities across Victoria to share in more than $2.2 million from the latest round of the Country Football and Netball Program.
In Angelsea, we are delivering $100,000 for the Sports Lighting Upgrade project, which will upgrade and improve the existing sports lighting at Ellimatta Reserve on the main oval used for AFL to 150 lux, with the ability to switch the lighting to 100 lux.
The project will address a gap in the provision of safe and compliant lighting at the reserve and support the high participation in football.
The Country Football and Netball Program replaces and upgrades ageing grounds and facilities for football and netball clubs across regional Victoria, so they can meet growing demand and welcome even more members. It’s a partnership with the AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria to help football and netball clubs across the state, because everybody deserves equal facilities, no matter where they live.
Grants from the latest round include ground resurfacing, installation of lighting and the construction of new pavilions and netball courts. This means teams like the Anglesea Kangaroos will have room to grow and locals can get on the ground when they want, whether as a player, coach, umpire or volunteer.
Labor first started the Country Football and Netball Program in 2005, and since, the program has delivered more than $26.5 million to over 470 projects across rural Victoria.
The funding is part of the Andrews Government’s strong commitment to community sport and active recreation, and to encourage all Victorians to get out there and get active.
That’s why we’ve already invested $420 million since coming to office in community sport and recreation facilities including local and regional sports grounds, leisure facilities, parks, playgrounds and trails.
Ms Tierney thanked project partners, Surf Coast Shire Council and the Anglesea Football Netball Club.
