The Victorian Government is supporting the Surf Coast Shire Council with an urban renewal planning project that will develop a clear direction for revitalising the CBD and facilitate private investment in the area.
The Minister for Training and Skills, Gayle Tierney MP today announced the Victorian Government’s $40,000 funding towards the planning project on behalf of Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford.
The project involves the development of an economic and urban design framework that will provide investors with clear guidance on the council’s expectations and preferences for future development.
This clarity is expected to facilitate considerable private investment in the CBD as well as:
- Diversifying the economy beyond the current traditional trading periods
- Improving the ‘sense of place’ with creative public realm design
- Providing greater connectivity and integration between the CBD and surrounding precincts
By driving private sector investment and providing clearer development guidelines, the outcomes of the planning project have the potential to stimulate major investment and jobs in the Torquay CBD.
The Victorian Government is supporting the $90,000 project in partnership with the Surf Coast Shire Council who will deliver the project.
The Victorian Government is funding the project as part of its $500 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, which supports initiatives across regional and rural Victoria that build critical infrastructure, create jobs, help create dynamic communities and support new and emerging industries.
