The Andrews Labor Government is helping put on fun, educational – and free – events this October for Surf Coast Shire families and children as part of Children’s Week.
Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today announced Surf Coast Shire Council was among the 69 recipients of a Children’s Week grant, receiving funding to help it hold Learning is the Key throughout the Surf Coast Shire from Monday 23 October to Friday 27 October.
The grants ranging from $500 to $1300 will be provided to not-for-profit organisations and councils to host free and fun activities for families as part of Children’s Week, which runs from 21-29 October.
Children’s week activities in Surf Coast Shire will include a smoking ceremony (in line with the year of reconciliation), brain gym, music sessions, library story time, sustainability education and cultural diversity.
The 2017 Children’s Week theme recognises the power of education to transform a child’s life.
Children’s Week events are free for families with children aged 0-12 years and are a great opportunity for families to enjoy a fun, engaging and educational experience.
The Government is delivering its $202.1 million Education State Early Childhood Reform Plan, which recognises the importance of providing families with strong support in early childhood so our kids are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.
