On another note, on 23 September I had the pleasure of joining the Minister for
Housing, Richard Wynne, and the member for Melton in the other place, Don Nardella, as
the minister turned the first sod on the $5.4 million public housing estate in
Bacchus Marsh, which is to be completed next year. We were joined by 70-year-old
former resident Betty Duffin, who is excited by the construction of the
facility. She was quoted as saying, ‘The Gold Coast will have nothing on us. The
surrounds like the gardens and fixtures look wonderful’. The facility in Young
Street will consist of a range of modern environmentally friendly features that
will be more cost-effective for the tenants and reduce their carbon footprint.
