The Andrews Labor Government has secured $1.8 million in the 2015-16 Victorian
Budget to improve pedestrian safety in Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove.
Pedestrians using Bridge Rd and Hitchcock Avenue in Barwon Heads will benefit from $800,000 in safety improvements, announced today by Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney.
As part of the project, access to the local shopping strip and public transport facilities will be improved, taking into account the needs of pedestrians, cyclist and other road users.
An additional $1 million will be used for new traffic lights at the intersection of Marlin Drive and Tuckfield Street, Ocean Grove.
Investing in this intersection will ensure safer and reliable travel for all road users, as well as alleviating congestion and improving travel times for local commuters.
These new lights will provide a safer crossing for pedestrians and school children and will improve safety and traffic flow during peak periods.
The Government will continue to work with VicRoads to consult with the community in the planning for both these projects over coming months.
