On Sunday, 2 August, I represented the Minister for Regional and Rural
Development at the Hamilton Sheepvention wool fashion parade, when I announced
$800 000 for an extensive upgrade of the Hamilton Showgrounds. These significant
improvements will benefit local community groups but also the annual beef expo
and Sheepvention. The Hamilton Pastoral and Agricultural Society is to be
congratulated on the leadership it has shown in driving the project and with the
council, in securing the funding.
I take this opportunity to thank specifically Simon Menzel,
Sheepvention president, and Phillip Baulsh, chairperson of the pastoral and
agricultural society, for a truly fantastic 2009 Sheepvention. Lots of work,
networking and community spirit were evident in Hamilton on 3 and 4 August, and
many of us are already looking forward to Sheepvention 2010.
