More Victorian government Aboriginal school students in Victoria’s south west are being supported to complete Year 11 and 12, thanks to the Victorian Government’s Marrung Education Scholarships program.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today congratulated the 7 Marrung Education Scholarship recipients from south west Victoria for 2019 and 2020, who were among 40 Aboriginal student recipients from Victorian government schools from across the state.
The Marrung Education Scholarships recognise students who demonstrate a high potential to succeed in their chosen pathway, including strong academic results and dedicated involvement in their local Aboriginal community.
Recipients of a Marrung Education Scholarships receive $5,000 each – $2,500 a year over two years – to support students to complete Year 11 and 12 in a Victorian government school.
More than 220 students have shared in more than $1 million worth of Marrung Education Scholarships since the program started in 2009.
Through the Marrung: Aboriginal Education Plan 2016-2026, the Andrews Labor Government is working to improve education outcomes for Koorie Victorians.
The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every student can access a great local school and get a great education.
