The Andrews Labor Government is putting Victorian families living in the south west first by giving grassroots cricket clubs the support they deserve.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney announced today that three cricketing facilities in the south-west – Irrewarra Cricket Club, Pomborneit Recreation Reserve and Walter Oval in Warrnambool – are set to benefit from the Labor Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund by receiving grants.
Irrewarra and Walter Oval Warrnambool are to receive $100,000 each, and Pomborneit $30,000.
Our investment will help Irrewarra Cricket Club to build new clubrooms and amenities, including unisex change rooms, at the Colac Secondary College Community Sports Field.
This project will provide much needed change facilities where there are currently no amenities to cater for the club.
There will also be provision for umpires, kitchen, storage and open social space. It will help to provide a quality sporting hub for cricket and junior football, and other precinct users.
Grassroots cricket clubs are the lifeblood of our suburbs and towns. They are where communities get together, locals embrace healthy and active lifestyles and kids enjoy special memories that stay with them for life.
Victorians love their cricket. Some 320,000 of us play a form of the game, and thousands flock to tests, day-night games and Twenty-Twenty.
The $12.4 million Community Cricket Program, which is funded by the government, Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia, is providing new opportunities for all Victorians to pick up a bat or ball and enjoy our national summer pastime.

Victoria is the sporting state, and it doesn’t happen by chance. We’re upgrading grassroots facilities all over the state, because it changes people’s lives for the better.
