The Victorian Government will deliver vital maintenance and safety works at over 400 schools to support jobs and local businesses through the coronavirus pandemic and improve facilities for students and staff across Victoria.
Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today announced 28 schools in Victoria’s south west will share in more than $15.3 million 2020-21 Bushfire Preparedness (Vegetation) Program and Planned Maintenance Program.
Eight schools will share in $330,000 of Planned Maintenance Program funding for essential work to grounds and classrooms such as fixing roofs and windows, painting, resurfacing floors and replacing windows, as well as repairing landscaping like pathways and steps.
- Terang College will receive $175,000 for high-priority maintenance identified for the school’s roof, structural and pest issues.
- Cobden Technical School will receive $70,000 to address high priority maintenance, including ceiling repair, floor repair, lighting repair, painting works, partition repair, roof repair, shade structure repair, soffit repair, structural repair, toilet repair, wall repair and window repair.
- Lismore Primary School will receive $10,000 to address high priority maintenance works, including ceiling repair, floor repair, painting works, soffit repair, wall repair and window repair.
- Skipton Primary School will receive $15,000 to address high priority maintenance works, including ceiling repair, downpipe repair, floor repair, glazing replacement, guttering repair, lighting repair, painting works, shade structure repair, sink repair and wall repair.
- Allansford and District Primary School will receive $10,000 to address high priority maintenance works, including downpipe repair, painting works, shade structure repair, toilet repair and wall repair.
- Grasmere Primary School will receive $30,000 to address high priority maintenance works, including floor repair, handrail/balustrade repair and switchboard repair.
- Narrawong District Primary School will receive $5,000 to address high priority maintenance works, including surfacing work, painting works, shade structure repair and wall repair.
- Warrnambool West Primary School will receive $15,000 to address high priority maintenance, including flagpole repair, floor repair, painting works, shade structure repair, structural repair, switchboard repair and wall repair.
The Bushfire Preparedness funding will see 20 schools share in more than $467,664 to clear vegetation and undertake other essential maintenance ahead of the upcoming bushfire season.

- Lorne P-12 College will receive $25,196.72
- Mortlake P-12 College will receive $31,148.68
- Simpson Primary School will receive $22,921.93
- Gnurad Gundidj Campus will receive $17,213.02
- Timboon P-12 School will receive $31,787.91
- Bolwarra Primary School will receive $19,971.70
- Hawkesdale P12 College will receive $31,666.09
- Heywood Consolidated School will receive $27,147.71
- Heywood District Secondary College will receive $31,302.31
- Macarthur Primary School will receive $17,562.07
- Woodford Primary School will receive $19,802.53
Over $2 million of this will go towards maintenance to Shelter-in-Place buildings at 12 schools, which provide temporary accommodation to staff and students in the case of a bushfire.
Works with contractors will be carried out under COVID-19 advice guidelines to ensure the health and safety of staff and students.
If works can’t start immediately due to Stage 4 restrictions, offsite planning of these works and any that are essential for school safety will continue.
The Government is investing an unprecedented $7.2 billion in Victorian school infrastructure, which is delivering more than 1,460 school upgrades and 100 new schools by 2026 – ensuring every child can access a great local school where they can achieve their best.
