The 17th Heywood Wood, Wine and Roses Festival on Saturday, 28 February, was a
wonderful success, with over 10 000 people attending. Congratulations must go to
the organisers and in particular, Mrs Elaine Evans, president and organiser of
the street procession.
On the day, my toughest job was assisting in the judging along
with the mayor of Glenelg shire and the member for South-West Coast in the
Assembly, Dr Denis Napthine. It was an hour-long street parade, and the overall
winner was the Heywood Consolidated School. I thank all the students and
teachers involved for providing us with a wonderful, colourful and lively
display. The whole day was living proof that Heywood has a depth of community
spirit that many in larger communities would envy.
