Anglesea Fire Brigade has reached two important milestones, welcoming the addition of an Ultra-Light Tanker to its fleet and marking the opening of its new satellite station.
Labor Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney officially opened the new station, which is a secondary site for the Anglesea brigade – with the main station still located at 59 Great Ocean Road.
The satellite station was made possible thanks to funding of $520,000 from the Andrews Labor Government, and provides two generously sized engine bays, ample space for appliances, as well as separate turn-out rooms with storage for personal protective clothing separate from the motor room.
The separate turn-out room will assist to attract a more diverse membership for the brigade and ensure proper facilities are provided for its 10 female and 29 male members.
A total of $142,000 was provided for the new tanker, with $120,833 provided by the Victorian Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP), and an additional $21,667 raised by the Anglesea Fire Brigade.
The addition of an Ultra-Light Tanker will support the brigade’s capacity to respond to spot-sized, remote, or difficult to access fires.
Alongside responding to fires, the tanker is also designed to support backburning operations, mopping up and patrolling duties and will prove to be a versatile and worthwhile investment for the brigade and its members.
First registered in 1970, the Brigade comprises 16 operational members and a total membership of 39. It is located within District 7, forming part of the Coastal Group which includes Airey’s Inlet, Bellbrae, Connewarre, Freshwater Creek, Lorne, and Torquay brigades.
With the addition of these two new assets, the Anglesea brigade is better equipped to respond to fires quickly and efficiently and ensure the safety of the communities it serves.
